Delphine Wigger’s artistic practice centres on sexuality, nostalgia, adolescence, and childhood. The motifs in her work often originate in early sketchbooks or in objects that surrounded her while growing up. She also translates these motifs into photography, installation, and bronze sculpture.
Writing is a recurring element in her paintings. Drawn from diary entries and notes written during her teenage years, it introduces a direct and personal voice.
Human figures rarely appear in her work. Instead, toys, dolls, furniture, and everyday objects from her childhood take centre stage. Rather than telling specific stories, these objects evoke memory while remaining open to interpretation.
Delphine Wigger’s paintings are characterised by formal reduction. Many focus on a single object and are rendered almost exclusively in black and white. This visual language is rooted in her own experience of growing up surrounded by an overwhelming accumulation of old belongings. Her work responds to this visual density through simplicity and concentration.
The recurring symmetry in her paintings stems from her early practice of making paper cut-outs. Today, these influences remain visible in a transformed way: symmetry becomes a means of creating and questioning order, while the black and white palette directs attention to form and contrast.
Biography
Delphine Wigger (b. 2002, Hamburg, Germany) lives and works in Berlin. Since 2021, she has studied painting under Friederike Feldmann at Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin.
In 2025, she was awarded the Dorothea Konwiarz Scholarship.
Since 2026 she is represented by Galerie Pollaks.
Her work has been exhibited internationally in more than 30 group exhibitions and two solo exhibitions across the United States, Iceland, Luxembourg, France, and Germany, including presentations at Studio Hannibal, the Kleist Museum Frankfurt, the Dorothea Konwiarz Gallery, Lobe Block, Casino Luxembourg, and Idas Room.
In 2023, she collaborated with the Chinese label Mof Giftshop, translating her artistic practice into fashion.
Her work has been featured in Spiritus Magazine, the Belgian Sixxpm Magazine, Art New York Magazine and King Kong Magazine.
In 2023, she published her first artist’s book grey gloss, consisting of texts written in a state between sleep and wakefulness.
In 2026, her artistic practice was portrayed in a documentary film by Anna-Lena Preuß and Viviane Hofmann.
